Sergei Zinoviev graduated from the Latvian Academy of Fine Arts in1985. He studied under famous Latvian artists: Boris Berzins, Edward Kalnins and Imants Vecozols. Despite the influence of his teachers Sergei Zinoviev was able to find his own, unique style that distinguishes his works visually as well as spiritually from the work of his teachers.
Since 1985, Sergei Zinoviev's work has been shown in galleries in Latvia, England, USA, Italy, France and many other countries. In the mid-nineties, he lived in the U. S. where his art was commissioned by the fine art museums. He has been traveling extensively, sketching, painting landscapes and specific genre scenes, such as the bullfights for example.
Today, the artist focuses mainly on the old Riga with its ancient architecture and social life, surrounded by irresistible romantic aura. The artist uses perfect and precise lines as well as subtle and delicate colors to express the beauty of the Old Riga. This technique reminds us of the work of old masters where tone patters are truly secondary.
Sergei Zinoviev has been studying old postcards of Riga that portray places and buildings that do not exist anymore. His approach makes us think about the relationship between the artist and the history of places he depicts in his art. Sergei Zinoviev works diligently and uses pencil and miniature brushes to achieve very realistic image of famous places such as the Blackheads House, the Convent Court, the St. Peter's Church and other buildings in the architectural background of Old Riga. The unique and ruly amazing style of Sergei Zinoviev#226;€™s work allows as to travel back in time and see places and buildings that are long gone.
